Does anyone know if there will be another Blue Ridge Bus Tour later in the year?

Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

Is it plausible to charge say six batteries at once from the generator of my 78 Westy while driving?
I was thinking about having an in home inventor and a battery pack if say I lose power during an ice storm.

If my van ain't rockin its rollin!!

Absolutely plausible. If the batteries are in good condition to start.

Maybe a bit slow, most your alternators regulator will put out is 14v so the current draw wont be as much as your home charger which increases amp by increasing voltage. In school they taught me batteries should have some internal resistance.

A 78 would have an alternator. Alternators are designed for maintaining batteries, not recharging them from a depleted state. They will perform that task, but will greatly shorten the life of the Alternator. The bus alternator stock was somewhere rated between 55 and 65 amps max capacity. It might work better if you purchased and adapted a larger alternator.
