Does anyone know if there will be another Blue Ridge Bus Tour later in the year?

Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

Opening up boxes of new parts is like opening up a box of cholates, I love it. Here is the new cam gear and hyd lifters, coming out of the box. the big blue box is the 96 CC P/L's , the last picture is the van loaded with all the nasty parts, heading to the machine shop for a wash and fixing up.

Been doing a little prep work, put the cam together, and washed the P/L's, oiled them and put them back together, with the rings in the proper position. When you recieve P/L's from the builder, they must be cleaned, oiled and rings put in the proper position, the guy at the plant don't care where he puts them. Now the parts are ready to be installed when I get the other parts back from the machine shop.

Put away, waiting ...

It's not looking good for this week at the machine shop, just too many big engines in the way, damn those race car drivers.

Race car drivers are the worst, we're willing to wait for a great Phil Bear creation! Still trying to get the Blue Bus on the road but guess it won't be Brew Bus in the Blue Bus. Might be something yellow.

Seems like while we were at the campout, the machinest was working on your parts, so he said to come in tonight and I might find some parts ready. The heads had some guides bad in them and a couple of valve were gone south, nothing that can't be fixed. Will have some pictures later.

Yes, they were done, and here they are.

The spark plug insert is re-installed, the only problem is I loaned out my 9mm 1.25 Tap, and it didn't come back, it was in a set of tools, the complete set didn't make it back.

I have chase all the stud holes to be able to replace the studs, and now I have to buy a new tap. Never loaning any tools again

I sure hope this broken stud comes out easy..

Well, the stud didn't come out easy, broke off flush, took it to the machine shop, drilled it out, re-tapped the hole, to recieve a heli-coil (9mm) heli coil installed and stud put in, a auful lot of work for one stud, now to top it off there will be no warm up air on this engine, the stud for the wheel that turns the wire, to go to the top, broke off. Installed in the heads two new valves two new guides , replaced seven of the eight studs, the heads should be ready for another 100K. I did some work on my own vans today to, replaced the window winder in my 85, and the starter in my 88, used a tap to get the old starter bush out, put the new one in, greased it, slid the starter right in.

Here I am finishing up dressing the case getting it ready to put the innards in it, and as I was sizing the bearings to fit, the #1 bearing would not go into the case, I measured it, and low and behold it has a .020 bearing in a standard box, just wont fit a standard case. all the others in the box were right, so I had to break a new box to get things right. The box had been opened, so I should have looked and checked as soon as I got them, someone else needed just one bearing, so they sent the box back with a wrong size bearing in it, hoping that the store wouldn't notice, well they did well, I got screwed.

You know that if all the parts had been there on this engine I would have been done, it took three hours of searching to find the last distrubtor drive spacer in the world. Here is what I have done so far today.

Work spurt, got the lifters in, P/L's on heads there too. Had a problem with the oil pump clearance with the cam gear, had to do some trimming , but all is well now. Never had this problem before, they must have changed something on the gear. Took about three hours to get it right.

Almost finished, I have put the rockers on and am adjusting the valves, big trouble, over half of the adjusters are frozen, so it is big time slow getting them loose, I like two of them, letting them soak overnight to see if they will loosen up in the morning.
