Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

So Jess was at the grocery store in my Bus and some dumb young chick backed out of her spot and put a stripe right down the side of my Bus!

Is it a major scratch? No. But at the same time, I do my best to keep every scratch from happenin.

I'm torn on what to do. I'm not a guy who is sue happy.

I'd love to chalk it up as Crap Happens....but I have to look at that now. That and Jess said she literally just backed up without ever lookin.

And I wonder if Jess wasn't right there, if she would have even stopped??

Do I report it because I have full coverage on the Bus?

I'm just frustrated and don't wanna take the pissed off approach.

Again, it's nothin terrible but at the same time I didn't do it.

Help me out guys and gals!

As a driver you have a responsibility to "fix what you break".
If your not prepared to do so, you should not even carry car keys. Its not your fault that she cant drive, dont pay attention and has little regard for anything outside her car. Accidents happen when you dont pay attention. Im glad that we are hearing this story rather than one of her backing out and hitting a kid right in front of Jess.

No reason you or your insurance should pay for it. Its not being "sue happy" if all your doing is making someone be responsible for their actions and in the end it may make her be a better driver and avoid a larger more dangerous accident.

And yes... Ive been hit and screwed by being the "nice guy". That will never happen again.

this is why we get insurance. I am impressed that you have full coverage. (I don't cover my bus, just damage to the other car and people)

give her the option to make good on the damage, and get it in writing, or let her know that you need to have a police report for your insurance to cover it so if she would like you to go that route, it may also include a citation for her. Ultimately, it would be cheaper for her to pay for the damage than to pay for the damage and a fine.

That sucks though!

Store parking lots are private property, so police won't issue citations. You should have had the police come down right then and make a report tho'. She can either pay for the damage, or you'll have to take her to small claims court. At least, that's the way it is here in TN. Good luck!

I guess I'm goin to see what it would cost to have the paint redone right there. Not through a insurance place. Just see what it would be cash some where. We have alot of local paint shops.
I hate to be picky but every scratch sucks! And this one wasn't actually my fault.

Make her pay to have it fixed and yes the police will right a ticket in parking lot in Tennessee.... an accident is an accident. Ask me, I have a daughter who can't drive worth a shit. Call the police now if you want to make a report if you think she will give you a hard time about her responsibility.

It shouldn't be a problem, her insurance should pay for it, don't feel like you are taking advantage of her, that is what insurance is for, if you do have full coverage, and she wont have it fixed, have your insurance company fix it and they will go after her insurance company and collect. Don't fall for the "I don't want to turn it in to my insurance company, it will raise my rates". You did exchange names and insurance companys didn't you, call your insurance company and see what they say to do.

Amen. Also, the answer to that is, turning the claim into her insurance company is not going to raise her rates. The fact that she is not a responsible driver is going to raise her rates.

Well it's pretty easy to excuse her accidentally backing into you, I mean it's not like it's a BIG ORANGE BUS or anything she might happen to notice...

All that aside, in NC you MUST call the police before leaving the scene. Otherwise, you have "fled the scene of an accident" and you could be in trouble, not to mention dramatically lowering your chance of having the other person be accountable.
If that happened to one of my ratty VWs I probably wouldn't care. But as nice as your bus seems, it is now less nice, directly because of her. It may be too late to file anything against her so long after the fact, though, Good luck.

That looks like it will mostly buff out. A lot of the colour there is transfer from the other vehicle. If it's deep enough to get bare metal, or even down to primer then it needs to be sealed. But I would try a buffing wheel on it and see how that goes, it's a LOT less hassle than having it repainted.

Or else have greenbus cut you a sticker to cover it!!

SO I went to get two estimates today. One place told me they would do more than buff it out and "blend" in the paint. $400

Second place said they would do less than paint both full panels. $1100

Called the people and told them. They then decided to turn it into their insurance.

So, their insurance company is to call Monday.

I'll keep ya updated.

Exactly my thought. Have her pay for the repair. She can pay cash or submit it to her insurance company - let her deal with that decision/hassle.

Glad to hear that it sounds like she will "own up" to it. I swapped info once with no report and ended up having to take the guy to court for $600. In the end, I won, his and his girlfriends licenses were revoked until I was paid off and they got a release from the court. But it was still a major PITA getting the judgement against them.
