I have 2 Westfalia's, one is a 1971 red and white that is all original, I bought it from the original owner, the engine is out and torn down, as is the fuel tank... It does have some rust on the rear corners and minor rust under the windshield but is very very solid and very original. It had sat in a garage for almost 20 years. I had the wheels professionally stripped and powder coated and had 6 ply BF Goodrich tires mounted and balanced for it.. The other is a 1970, it was my brothers back in the 90s and was left to me after he passed away. He had converted it from wide lug wheels to disk brakes from a 71 but they do not have the booster so I

Mountain boy....ha! Yeah Ill try to get some pictures up, after watching Ebay for a while I think my busses would be a great find for somone with the time and space to devote to them... They both would need a solid once over and some body work, both would need new canvas but like I said, my 71 Westy is all original and complete!

Well, the '71 is a great year for buses, and many people want one....but as I said, pictures do make a huge difference unless the buyer lives near you and can just pop by.....

So, I hope you can do that......I look forward to seeing it.....I would love to have another '71......

First thing I would have told the seller is that a RUNNING bus is a lot more valuable than a project. Apart, it just isn't worth as much, because there are a LOT less people who will be interested in it. A running bus can be used by anyone, so there will be more demand and a higher return.

And we could have told the seller to put them on TheSamba, or to compare prices with other local buses to get a feel for what they're worth. It's happened here lots of times.

But 23 hrs after the original post they're already on ebay, so the only use for this thread is to drive in some traffic. Does anyone else here feel used?

They are on the Samba in the Ebay section, along with Craigslist and the local paper. The only reason I put them on here with the EBay link is for the pictures and info, had you read the EBay auction you would see that they are for sale locally and Ill pull the EBay auction for the right price from the right buyer. My father is not well so the project stopped and they are taking up a lot of space in our garages. I’m sorry if you or anyone else on here feel used but your right, I am trying to get traffic to the EBay auction or from real possible buyers that want to look at the EBay auction for pictures and info then PM me with serious questions or requests to come meet me in person and look at both of them and make me an offer. I am aware that a running bus would bring in more, I don’t have the time or desire to build an engine for the 71 at this point, I’m burned out with major personal issues that far outweigh the value of anything I own! I hope you can understand that….. ~Matt

Since I don't have enough real money interest to feel "used", I'll simply remain "bemused", drool and move on.

Although thanks for pointing out the tactic. Since he can't get them running, selling them as a pair and broadcasting the existence of this auction seems like a reasonable mode of getting their worth. They seem to have sheltered these things nicely for a long time.

I certainly don't feel used. I appreciate the chance to buy more bus's or someone that needs or wants one to have one. That's the whole purpose of the web: to get the info out.

Go ahead and use me.
