Does anyone know if there will be another Blue Ridge Bus Tour later in the year?

Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

Well, I know that on the old american water cars that this is not good, so I would think the same way with this waterboxer. If I may guess it could be a head gasket leaking into the combustion chamber, but wouldn't that be one of the "O" rings leaking, and if it was a a "O" ring the head would also have to have a bad seal on it too. Mark, a little help here. What normaly puts antifreeze into the exhast gas. Big clouds of white smoke coming from tailpipe and smells of antifreeze. Where did I go wrong at, on the put together.

Will it go away after it warms up.. or will it continue to leak?? Will the Subie Sealer work on this type of a leak??

Try the sealer, nothing to loose, definitely sounds like water in the cylinder, check the oil cap and stick to make sure it's not in the oil, I used the German permatex on the base o rings, and did the cylinders in 13 24 pairs using cargo straps to hold them in untill the sealant set, planed the tops of the cylinders with 1/4 inch pieces of glass with 400 sandpaper glued to them, and then put the heads on. Actually planed the cylinder tops first, then did the o rings. Also used a dental tool first then stainless steel wirewheels on the Dremel gooseneck to clean the grooves on the cylinders the o rings go in. Vaccum the area afterwards before you start flopping around on the ground under the bus or you'll end up with lots of little stainless steel wires stuck in your back. OK, I'm a little anal retentive.

If I have to go back into the engine, I will pull the engine to get to the P/L's, I don't do crawling around under them anymore, getting too old for that, I'll put it on a engine stand and do it right, Thanks for the heads up on it, I'll try some subie sealer on it first, then the major work if it don't work out. It just ran so good up to this point. Grrrr.

hey phil subie stuff works. not uncommon for it to do this, that is what the refill tank behind the tag is for. Ever notice that jettas/golfs don't have a refill tank??? that is cause it isn't needed on that type engine. WBX with cast iron cly. and Al heads expand at different rates with only a skinny o ring sealing them , should quit once it warms up. I would live with it as long as possible later md

Well, after putting the Subie Conditioner in it, it seems to have cleared up, that is some kind of good stuff. Hope it holds it for a while. Things are looking up. MARK, I put two in and have a extra in the glove box, I got all they had at the dealership.

I'd drain the coolant, let cool overnight, retorque with new goop on the washers, and run another bottle of sealant. I'd take it to 40 ft/lbs also.

I would think an additional 3 ft/lbs would be in tolerance, I understand that goes up as the motor warms, besides, it's not my bus. Bear has spares.

As long as it's not leaking, I'm not touching it. I haven't had a external leak on it, just the antifreeze going out the tail pipe, which means the outer seal has given some, and the head has not so good of a seal on it. With the antifreeze going that way, the sealer should do a good job of stopping it. If it still remains bad, I'll pull the engine in a few weeks and do the sealing all over again. This time putting a overload of the good sealer all over it.

Up date on my little puffer, the leak seems to have gone away with the sealer in the antifreeze, so I guess we can call this one fixed for the time being. I'll put a few road miles on it and check it out.
