Does anyone know if there will be another Blue Ridge Bus Tour later in the year?

Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

I'm assuming you've read up on the SPOT and all the "hidden" charges that they stick you with too? It's not nearly as cheap as it looks from the initial purchase price. Depending on where you go a cheaper option may be a decent cell phone (NOT an iPhone) with an antennae that you can extend- One with a port for an external antennae is an even better option. I can get a signal in most places I've been in NC, for example, using the external antennae. They're compact and light and can easily by looped over a branch or something to get it up higher. In the truck I have a Wilson cell phone amplifier (not practical for hiking). If I have even one bar and cut the amp on it will boost it up to usually four bars and I don't drop calls in the mountains.

As you go out west there are a lot more places where they won't work even with a Yagi directional antennae.

I was going to get a Spot too until I read more about them. I may still get one on the future, but for now I'm sticking with my old Motorola phone. There are some good reviews of the SPOT and other systems on adventurerider.com and expeditionportal.com.

hey brian sorry but I think I will give my dollar to the nattybus raffle bus for Ronald McDonald house. which seems to me to be a more worthy cause. I would suggest you to do what every other red blooded american does when they want something and that is to make the money for whatever you deem you need or want. Later md

We had our first false alarm from one with a distress signal on Lions Head...pretty cool that it posted it up on his twitter account and facebook, not cool that we all went on high alert because a friend was in trouble. Luckily a hasty search caught up with him before the rescue party organized.

Ya it is cool,
I use mine when I am out in the woods and fly fishing, and just about every place I go.
a few months ago a friend was going climbing and at the last min I put it in his bag. good thing I did, he fell 3 stories and had no way to get out. hit the help button and we were there with in an hour. broke his hip and right leg. to me that is worth about $99 a year.

What am I missing? Is this some kind of marketing gimmick for this product? I certainly hope not.

If I had one, I would just have to set it off in the mall to see what happened.
