Does anyone know if there will be another Blue Ridge Bus Tour later in the year?

Yep 13 turns is ok. Putting back by number of turns is just a general guide to get it close assuming it was aligned correctly before you started.

Apparently we are at the mercy of the airlines when we fly. Aaron flew out of Colorado Springs this morning and he was going to be bumped but he ended up getting home on time. Hannah flew out of Denver and was going to be bumped but got to stay on time to Atlanta. Then her flight out of there was delayed then canceled. The next flight was going to be 24 hours later. She was not going to be fed or put up in a motel for the night or get a refund for the this last leg of the trip. I'm thinking the airline could at least feed her one meal. And maybe give her a pillow. Her cousin is going to get her so she doesn't have to spend the night in the airport.

Which airline was it? Make sure to log a complaint with their customer service dept, preferably in writing. It might take a little longer but the likelyhood of results is much higher.

It also depends on the status of your booking. Some bookings can include cancellation coverage, some don't. Or you can buy a separate insurance package to cover that possibility.

Me, I'm about to board my second delayed flight this week. Isn't winter travel wonderful?

Hannah got home at three AM. Her ticket is for round trip and I can request a partial refund from Delta after she uses the return part of her ticket in January. Very positive customer service experience today(Sally with a very heavy Indian accent). Now we just need to track down her baggage. It is probably still in Atlanta. I hope they send it to Greenville today.

Aren't the airlines at the mercy of Mother Nature? Didn't Atlanta have icy conditions?

At that time there was no bad weather in Atlanta or Greenville. I am guessing there was bad weather where the flight out of Atlanta was coming from.

I have flown once back in 08. From St Louis to Huntsville. It took me about 30 minits to get over my internal panic attack then it was cool as hell!

I fly a lot and you kind of get used to it- it still sucks but it's just of the facts of life these days. As was noted you have to look at what type of ticket you have and flying standby is almost always a nightmare.

Depending on why the flight was delayed the airlines will pick up the tab for the hotel/food, but weather is beyond their control. Ice is not something you want to mess around with- as the plane climbs the temperature and pressure changes can create dangerous icing on the wings which effects lift as well as control surface (that's the way it was explained to me anyways). Loss of lift is a very bad thing in an airplane. Better safe than sorry.

Now if it's their fault i.e. mechanical breakdown then you can demand compensation but you usually have to be insistent these days and they're more than likely to give you miles vs other forms of compensation. I did manage to get a couple hundred bucks off my next flight with American but then I try not to fly American if I can help it. As rude and unprofessional as Delta attendants seem to be anymore I still prefer them to most of the other big carriers as they have enough flights they can connect you to all sorts of crazy places and they're part of the SkyMiles network (gotta love lounge privileges for long layovers!).

I've always heard that O'Hare, in Chicago, has the worst on time record. Being delayed makes it almost a sure thing you will miss your connecting flight.

Avoid O'Hare!

But it is so much fun to go running, on the powered walkway, through the underground tunnel between the terminals; while all the funky neon lights cause us to become dizzy as we sail past them, All to find out that after becoming nauseous, we have missed our connection. Good Times!!!
